This page explains what LOL.xyz collects when you visit. The short version: we count page views using our own analytics, we do not set any cookies on ordinary visitors, and there are no reader accounts. The longer version is below.
What we collect
Server logs
Like effectively every website, our servers record requests: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser’s user-agent string, and the page you came from. These logs exist to keep the site running and to investigate abuse and technical faults. They rotate automatically and are not used to build a profile of you.
Analytics
We measure how the site is being used with HitCounters, an analytics service we operate ourselves. It records which pages are viewed, when, the page you arrived from, and general details about your browser and device.
To tell a returning visit from a new one, it stores a random identifier in your browser’s local storage under a key beginning hc_v_. That identifier is a random string. It is not your name, your email address or anything you have told us, and it is not shared with advertisers or data brokers. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Because the analytics run on a separate domain, your browser makes a request to hitcounters.com on each page view, which means that server sees your IP address in the same way ours does.
Post view counts
We also count how many times each post is viewed, separately and on our own server. To avoid counting the same person repeatedly, your IP address and browser are combined and turned into an irreversible hash, which is stored for six hours and then discarded. We cannot turn that hash back into your IP address, and it is not linked to anything else.
Things you send us
If you email us, we have your email address and whatever you put in the message, for as long as we need it to deal with the matter.
Cookies and local storage
We do not set any cookies on visitors who are just reading the site.
Two things are kept in your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device rather than being sent with every request:
lol-theme— whether you chose the light or dark theme. This is never sent to us at all.hc_v_…andtf_vid— the random analytics identifier described above.
Clearing your browser data removes both. Logging in to the site, which only our own staff do, sets standard WordPress session cookies.
Other companies involved
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site to speed it up and absorb attacks. Your request passes through their network, so they see your IP address. They may set a cookie to tell people apart from bots.
- Google Fonts supplies the typeface. Your browser fetches the font files from Google’s servers, which means Google sees your IP address in the process.
- Wordfence is the security software on the site. It records IP addresses in order to detect and block attacks.
Our analytics are listed above rather than here because we run that service ourselves; the data does not go to an outside company.
Advertising
We do not currently serve third-party advertising, and nothing on this site is tracking you for advertising purposes. If that changes, this page will be updated to say what our ad partners collect before those ads go live.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will deal with it.
In practice we hold very little that identifies you: a server log entry that rotates out on its own, and analytics tied to a random identifier rather than to you by name. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
Photos of you
If a photo of you has been published here and you want it gone, that is handled on the DMCA / Removal page. You do not need to own the copyright in the photo to ask — being the person in it is reason enough.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site.
